Are You Creative?
Today, I was speaking with a client who told me she didn’t feel creative. This surprised me—she’s a graphic designer and recently returned to her life-drawing class. Yet, the idea of calling herself a “creative” felt like a step too far.
When we explored this further, she realised that embracing the label of being creative brought up self-doubt:
What might people say?
How would I be perceived?
What does it even mean to be creative?
She worried that owning her creativity would mean she had to rebrand herself—perhaps adopting the stereotypical image of an artist: a free-spirited, whiskey-drinking, angst-ridden hipster. She assumed she’d have to experience constant emotional turmoil just to tap into her creativity.
These assumptions—though lighthearted—reflect wider misconceptions about creativity that can hold people back from embracing their true creative potential.
Popular Misconceptions About “Creatives”
There’s a stereotype that creative people are:
❌ Untethered – Always drifting, lacking stability
❌ Ungrounded – Lost in their imagination, disconnected from reality
❌ Hippyish – Free spirits who reject structure
❌ Undisciplined – Struggling to stay focused
❌ Unpredictable – Constantly shifting direction
❌ Unorganised & Chaotic – Living in creative disarray
These ideas are not only misleading but also limiting. They discourage people from embracing their natural creativity, making them question whether they “qualify” as a true creative.
The Truth About Creatives
✔️ See Possibilities – Creatives have an eye for innovation and fresh perspectives
✔️ Yearn for Expression – Whether through writing, painting, music, storytelling, or movement
✔️ Think Independently – Less swayed by trends and external pressures
✔️ Benefit from Solitude – Creativity often flourishes in quiet moments of reflection
✔️ See Patterns & Connections – The ability to link ideas and bring new concepts to life
Creativity isn’t just about art, music, or writing—it’s about thinking differently, seeing new perspectives, and expressing yourself in ways that feel meaningful to you.
So, What About You?
Take a moment to reflect:
🌟 What is your perception of being “creative”?
🌟 Would you love to bring more creativity into your life?
🌟 Do you have ideas or “inklings” of something you’d love to explore?
🌟 Do you ever experience spontaneous creative moments—those flashes of inspiration that come from nowhere?
🌟 Do you enjoy baking, cooking, or experimenting in the kitchen?
🌟 Do you dance, sing, or play freely—just for the joy of it?
There has never been a better time to embrace creativity. As the world shifts rapidly, we are all being invited to step into the role of creators—shaping a future that feels more aligned, connected, and full of possibility.
Let’s create together—one step at a time.
