Cultivating Our Creativity in Times of Turbulence

In the midst of challenging times, it’s really helpful to seek to find ways to navigate this turbulence while staying true to our inner callings and passions. As we witness the world’s turmoil, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, especially if you are sensitive and perhaps seeking to make some sense out of it all.

But amidst the chaos lies an opportunity for growth and transformation. I firmly believe that there’s a radical shift happening in the world, especially for those on the spiritual and creative paths. Now more than ever, it’s essential to nurture our creativity and to listen in and align ourselves with our own inner intelligence. To do this we can slow down and listen in to our hearts and access more of our qualities such as compassion and creativity.  Each of us has a unique role to play in shaping a more harmonious and inclusive world.

Expressing our creativity is not only a form of self-expression but also a way of contributing positively to the collective and feeling more satisfied and empowered.

Recently, I had a conversation with a client who expressed their desire to be a “maker,” someone who collaborates and creates alongside others. This client is a Senior  Executive in a Corporate environment and felt stifled and ‘boxed in’. This mindset reflects the emerging paradigm of collaborative and non-hierarchical work structures, which is both refreshing and inspiring.

But how do we cultivate more creativity in our lives? Here are a few steps to consider:

  1. Commit to Your Creativity: Recognise your desire for creative expression and make a commitment to prioritise it in your life. Dedicate time and space to nurture your creative endeavours—it’s a gift to yourself and the world.
  2. Acknowledge the Risk: Creativity often requires vulnerability, as it involves putting yourself out there in new and unfamiliar ways. Understand that not everyone may appreciate your choice to live more freely or understand your creative pursuits, and that’s okay. Stay true to yourself and your vision.
  3. Create a Plan: Take some time to reflect on your inner intelligence and what you truly want to create with your unique talents and strengths. Your passions and abilities are clues to discovering your purpose. Develop a plan to pursue your creative aspirations, one step at a time.
  4. Be Realistic: Remember that creativity takes time to cultivate, and it’s essential to have support along the way. Seek out mentors, join supportive communities, and surround yourself with people who believe in your creative journey.
  5. Daily Practices: Incorporate daily practices such as meditation, movement, and self-care to stay grounded and connected to your creative spirit. These practices can help you maintain clarity and focus as you pursue your creative goals.
  6. Manage the Risk: Balancing creative pursuits with other commitments and responsibilities may feel daunting. Start by taking small steps towards your creative vision while honouring your existing commitments.

As we embark on this journey of creative exploration and self-discovery, know that you’re not alone. Together, we can cultivate a more vibrant and fulfilling life, fuelled by our innate creativity and passion.
